The design concept of Dunyue reflects the title of the project, Space Oddity. The aim is to create independent working spaces for each designer, similar to a space capsule, while opening up the rest of the environment using a square-shaped pattern. Despite being partitioned into separate divisions, the design fully utilizes the overall area to develop a spacious working environment.
Kai Jen Xiao chose the environment for its upright and square characteristics, rather than for the three-sided natural lighting. However, it's the lighting that enables the more particular placement and ingenious collocation of the entire field. The curtains are arranged in central shading to avoid excessive exposure that would affect the carefully-stacked shelter of the interior.
The light source of the office covers all the bases. In large office areas, a large hanging device is used for uniform lighting, and flexible projection lamps are set up. In addition to lighting needs, the projection light can be arbitrarily adjusted into an indirect lighting effect, illuminating the space's 3-dimensional level.
Regarding the metallic materials, the common thought is the piercing coldness. After pondering the solution to this matter, it was decided that the entire space be coated with polished black floor tiles for the configuration of the remaining fields to discard the hardness and inflexibility brought out by the integration of metals into the environment.
In recent years, the boundaries between work and life have been continuously broken. After the concept of Flexible Office was put forward, more and more people have called for enterprises to provide a high-quality office environment, which can improve the enthusiasm of employees and improve work efficiency. The traditional office space has not met the needs of the times, creating an interactive social space has become the latest model for the development of the office.
Every corner of the office has its own special purpose and flexibility, and to preserve the foundation and to allow it to expand and create more different imaginations, both in terms of human function and item storage and application, all possibilities are taken into account. The new generation of office must have the ability to create and collaborate capabilities within the office layout which can make a person unconsciously interact and share in the space.
During the process of conversing, designers let the design not only be the spatial division of the interior but a connection of the city/space/people together, so that the low-key environment and space do not conflict in the city, the daytime is a hidden facade in the street, night. Then it becomes a glass lightbox in a city.
With its innovative design and functionality, Dunyue by Kai Jen Xiao has set a new standard in office design, making it a deserving winner of the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020. This design is a testament to the power of creativity and innovation in transforming everyday spaces into extraordinary environments.
